She scans the crowd, searching - surely he's here,
the message sent weeks ago, Flight Seven
arrives at the airport March eleven.
He promised he'd meet her, now she's in fear
that this long waited dream will end so near
to the time of its prayed-for fruition.

Her heart pounds harder, she watches the scene-
families reunite, tears of joy shed,
lovers are whispering words left unsaid
in late-night phonecalls - and still in between
groups forming, leaving, his face isn't seen,
and she wonders could she have been misled.

But now the crowd's gone, and no one waits for
this lonely girl, come so far from her home.
She gathers her baggage, walking alone.
But no - wait! Now she stops, suddenly sure
she heard her name - and yes, there by the door
stands a tall man, smiling, holding a phone.

"I called," he tells her. "The car wouldn't start-
but you didn't answer. I thought that you..."
"Changed my mind?" She smiles. "I thought you did, too."
Now they realize they're still standing apart-
they go to each other, feeling the start
of what they'd hoped for so long could be true.
:faint: This was months of work... okay, three days worth of actual writing, but I've been working the story through my head until I thought I was going to go mad. :D The meter isn't quite right, but it's beaten me, I can't do it anymore. Oh, and by the way, Wendy - I don't write prose, so deal with it. :giggle: For the "Waiting" theme in the 100 themes challenge. :)
