When we sing the same song-
the notes intertwine,
and voices meld-
the words mean more than their definitions,
and thou art that.

I set flowers on my desk-
the vase is cold, but the petals soft,
and the smell enchants-
the colours spread across their corner,
and thou art that.

I move through another day-
The small smile I wear at odd moments,
and the taste of salt in a landlocked breeze-
the crunch of tires on a dirt road,
and thou art that.

These things that touch me,
are who I am-
and I see them shine back at me
through your eyes.

And I am that-
and thou art that-
and we are all.

"Tat tvam asi" is an expression of a Sanskrit doctrine - "Thou art that". It states that everything you think you are and everything you think you perceive are one. I thought it applied well to what I think love should be like.
I owe a lot of people thanks for this... ~mirroredtruths for a great line at just the right moment, *lostko for listening to me go through deadline panic and helping me see where to start, Robert M. Pirsig for the book that always gives me what I need, if I ask the right questions - and =s0lidsn4k3 for finding the crowbar I was missing.

I've left one person out, but I think he already knows how much he helps me. Happy Valentine's Day, darling. :heart:

wow Jen, how very zen! I love the imagery! I mean it, this is WOW! :winner: I love how you include all 5 senses, as well as the sense of oneness. I ADORE the cold vase and soft petals thing :omg: something about "set" in line 1 or stanza 2 is bugging me. like, maybe "place"? or something a little more active for a verb? I dunno. I'm wierd. this is so lovely. :+fav:
