Grey

I feel like I'm living
a double-exposure life-

waking hours spent smothered
in someone else's black-and-white photo.

But sleep brings me relief-

I walk beside you
in technicolour dreams,

white-capped blue water
that stretches to the horizon,
and echoes the cloud-washed sky above-
green hills rising high behind us.

Rose-patterned wallpaper
decorates gossamer walls
of a mind-apartment

whose yellow kitchen
smells of fresh-baked bread
and matches sunflower plates
laid out for lunch.

I wonder,
if my dreams weren't so vivid-
maybe my life wouldn't be
so grey.
